United Way Awarded Members for Read to Excel

United Way of Southeast Missouri (UWSEMO) is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a two-member grant from the DeltaCorps Regional Authority, a division of AmeriCorps. The grant provides two members for a new program, Read to Excel (R2X), an expansion of United Way’s valuable Read to Succeed program in the Cape Girardeau Public Schools.

Local tournament benefiting after-school program seeks more players

  

Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The team entry deadline has been extended for the area’s third annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, May 6-7, 2017, at Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Drive, in Cape Girardeau. The tournament is open to boys, girls, men and women of all ages. The new deadline is April 24, 2017.

Dr. Dana Schwieger, professor of management information systems (MIS) in the Department of Accounting at Southeast Missouri State University, was presented the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education April 5 at the Council on Public Higher Education Annual Faculty Awards Luncheon at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.

LOCAL HEALTH INITIATIVE REQUESTS FOCUS GROUP PARTICIPANTS

 To better serve the Southeast Missouri region, the Scott County Health Department is teaming up with other health departments across the heartland to improve and further develop M Power, a nonprofit regional initiative dedicated to helping those in the area affected by chronic disease. Scott County is currently registering individuals for focus groups in which they can share their opinions regarding health education services available at the health department. Those who participate will receive a $25 gift card in addition to a free meal during the focus group session.
