Student to Perform in National Choir

NEWS

At just 12 years old, Cape Girardeau native Anabella Donaldson-Michael has been selected for a second time to join the American Choral Directors Association's National Honor Choirs. Donaldson-Michael received one of the 300 spots in the Girls Junior High Honor Choir which will be performing at the 2015 National Convention in Salt Lake City. The selection process is on a national scale with 3,500 students competing for a chance in the choir. Donaldson-Michael has been practicing nonstop on the 10 songs she will be singing, some of which are in different languages, including Russian. The singer attends the Southeast Music Academy, and has been a vocal student since the age of 9, but says she has been singing all her life. Mary Mims, her teacher and audition sponsor says that this will be a big win for the Missouri Choral Director's Association, and will bring recognition to Cape. Anabella says it takes a lot of hard work to perform in the choir (practice in SLC will take up to 12 hours a day), but that it is an amazing experience.
