Historic High School Needs Renovations

NEWS

The Harrisburg High School is old enough to be a historical landmark, but is still being used for education, a job that has the 100-year-old building tearing at the seams. Plaster is falling, the ceiling is water-damaged, and the brick work is crumbling. Two years ago officials considered tearing it down to rebuild, but voters turned down the ballot. This year a new plan is being presented to renovate the aging school. There are three main buildings and a gym. Building C, the one with the most damage, is being considered for demolition, while the others will be repaired. The plan to renovate is less expensive, and won’t require a raise in taxes, as the superintendent wants to use revenue bonds to help cover the cost. Public forums are in the works, and the plan will appear on the ballots in April.
