Couples Celebrate 50 Years and Counting

NEWS

With so many divorces in today’s society, you wouldn’t expect a large turnout for the Schnuck’s sponsored ‘Love is in the Air’ dance, hosted for those married 50 or more years, but the tally showed that nearly 200 couples were in attendance last Friday in the Arena Building. Some have been married for as long as 71 years, getting hitched as early as the age of 16. Back then proposals went beyond the potential bride. Joyce Brown, married for 61 years, recalled how her husband, Dale, asked the school board, as well as her father, twice. The event gave these long-term couples a chance to celebrate in a low-key setting with breakfast and entertainment.
