Author Travels the Mississippi

NEWS

Gayle Harper has been a photographer and author for 23 years, but it took a special piece of inspiration to create her latest work  Roadtrip with a Raindrop: 90 Days Along the Mississippi River. The idea for a photography book had been on her mind for awhile, but she knew she was missing something and couldn’t get it started until this quote crossed her path: “A drop of water that falls into the headwaters of the Mississippi in Minnesota will travel 90 days to reach the Gulf of Mexico.” It was then that Harper decided to kayak down the Mississippi river, from Minnesota to Louisiana, making the same journey as a raindrop. With this encompassing goal in mind Harper arranged for lodgings down the Mississippi, leaving the rest of the details to chance. She made this incredible trip with a stop in Cape Girardeau where she took in the view from the Trail of Tears state park. Harper returned to Cape last Saturday, this time on a book tour, signing copies of her book at the local Barnes and Noble. Just another amazing journey in her repertoire.
