Dog Park Needs some Shade

NEWS

While the weather is perfect for visiting the park right now, later in the summer the heat can get fierce, and at Dogtown, Cape Girardeau’s dog park, that can be a problem. Resident Lucy Fehr loves to take her furry friends to the dog park, but with no mature trees or structures to offer shade, the heat of summer usually leaves them inside. Fehr said that last summer conditions were so bad that her dogs would only play for a few minutes before seeking shade under a table. She is now working to help provide a shade-caster for the park, either with a roof or umbrellas. Parks and recreation director Julia Thompson said that she is aware of the issue, but that funding is a problem. Right now they are working on ideas, and seeking any sponsors, or donations that can help bring some shade to Dogtown. Fehr has a Gofundme page for anyone that would like to help.
