River Campus Hosting Theatre and Dance Academy for Summer

NEWS

For children who love to act, dance, or still have the untapped energy of a performer, the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus is hosting a Theatre and Dance Academy for the summer of 2015. From kindergarteners to high school seniors the Academy is offering classes for everyone. Each class will teach singing, choreography, acting, and so much more, with final performances to take place at the end of the period.

For those in kindergarten to 5th grade, June 1-5 is the Morning Musical Theatre Acting class in which students will learn to perform Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The class takes place 9:00 a.m. to noon each day,

If your little one is a Frozen fan then the Afternoon Dance class is just for them. Kindergarten to 3rd grade will learn choreography and songs in the form of a ballet from the snow-themed film June 1-5 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This class will also take place June 8-12 with the same times.

The Morning Musical Theatre Acting class will be held June 8-12 for 2nd to 7th graders, 9:00 a.m. to noon, where they will learn to perform the Broadway play, ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’.

For the ultimate acting class, the Summer Acting Laboratory Theatre Camp will be held June 15-20, for 7th to 12th graders. This camp will provide optional residency for students and teach a variety of techniques, including improv, acting and singing, scene work, stage combat, auditions, and practical performance, all taught by professional artists.

Finally June 19 will be the All-Day Dance Intensive where young dancers ages 12 and up will learn ballet, jazz, contemporary techniques, and a variety of additional dance techniques like repertoire, partnering, improvisation, production, and choreography. This class is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with lunch provided.

Each class provides a fun and exciting look into the fields of acting and dancing that will make for a summer your child won’t soon forget. Prices for each class varies, and scholarships are available for those who qualify. Snacks or lunch will be provided.
