PRESS RELEASE
Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City - United Way of Southeast Missouri will host their second annual Basic Needs Drive (formerly referred to as the Shoebox Project) to help provide people in the community with items they need but cannot afford. Toiletries, baby supplies, and nonperishable food items will be collected throughout the month of June as part of a community-wide effort to help individuals and families meet their basic needs. Last year’s drive was highly successful, thanks to local supporters like Procter & Gamble, Isle Casino Cape Girardeau, various banks, and numerous individuals. Over 1,300 items were collected and donated to the Community Caring Council to help restock their Community Closet which is used to assist clients in times of emergency.
United Way is asking community members, civic groups, and businesses to collect the items listed below and drop them off at 430A Broadway in Cape Girardeau by Friday, July 3rd. The organization will work with its funded partners to distribute the supplies to families and individuals in need. Businesses are encouraged to designate a drop-off area for their employees and patrons to utilize during the supply drive.
