Bonus Cape Marketeers Club Day at the Red Star Community Garden

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO.  The Cape Marketeers Club in collaboration with the Cape Girardeau Community Gardens is hosting a Bonus Marketeers Club Day on July 18 from 8:00am – 10:00am at the Red Star Community Garden located at 1223 North Main St.  Jaime Koehler, Assistant Nature Center Manager and Master Gardener, will lead the activity where “Marketeers” will plant in the garden and learn about plant pollination and anatomy.  Marketeers will earn $5 in market tokens after participating to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Cape Riverfront Market. 

The Marketeers Club is a free educational program for kids 5 – 12 years old held at the Cape Riverfront Market that takes place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays May through August from 8am-noon. This program emphasizes the importance of fresh, local food and teaches kids about nutrition, science and growing food through hands-on demonstrations and activities. Marketeers earn $2 in market tokens each time they participate to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the market.  Kids and their parents/guardians can stop by the market info tent anytime to sign up and participate.

The Cape Marketeers Club is funded in part by the American Chemical Society and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services through the HEAL (Healthy Environments and Active Lifestyles) Grant through the guidance of the Healthy Communities Coalition.

The Cape Marketeers Club is a Cape Riverfront Market program.  The Cape Riverfront Market is under the umbrella of Old Town Cape, recipient of the Great American Main Street Award, a community driven, nonprofit organization that utilizes the Four-Point Main Street Approach™ to preserve, promote, revitalize, and enrich the historic, cultural, and economic landscapes of downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
