Beef O'Brady's Hosts Community Counseling Center Conference

PRESS RELEASE

Beef O’Brady’s of Perryville Presents check to Community Counseling Center Foundation for Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference.

The Missouri suicide rate of 15.9% is higher than the National average of 12.6%. Every day, 2 Missourians end their life by suicide. Missouri has the highest suicide rate in the Midwest. The suicide rate for the 5 counties served by Community Counseling Center is about 13.6% with 25% of these being veterans. On the average, 5 veterans in the state of Missouri commit suicide almost every week. This is more deaths than those caused by homicide or traffic accidents.

On July 29, 2015 Beef O’Brady’s of Perryville generously donated a 10% of their revenue for the day to the Community Counseling Center Foundation in support of the Foundation’s Suicide Prevention & Awareness Conference. Casey Stark, General Manager of Beef O’Brady’s presented a check for $235 to Savannah Martin and Shawni Miller of the Community Counseling Center.

Mary Burton, Community Counseling Center Foundation Executive Director expressed her gratitude for Beef O’Brady’s support, “It is only through such generous people that supported our cause that day by enjoying a great meal at Beef O’Brady’s that we are able to continue this important conference. Depression that is untreated, undiagnosed, or ineffectively treated is the number 1 cause of suicide. Regardless of the reason, suicide is a very serious problem for our families and our world today. Struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re human.”

The conference will be held at Cape La Croix Church at 3102 Lexington in Cape Girardeau on September 24, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The keynote address will be nationally renowned speakers Major General Graham (retired) & Mrs. Carol Graham. Afternoon breakout sessions will feature topics of interest to mental health professionals, as well as the general public, business professionals, and educators.

The Community Counseling Center is a not-for-profit provider of mental health care, serving Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Madison, Ste. Genevieve and Perry counties.
