Cape Announces Theme for Parade of Lights

PRESS RELEASE

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – Old Town Cape is excited to announce the theme for the 24th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights: Mistletoe Magic. The event, scheduled for Sunday, November 29th, is a family-friendly, unofficial kickoff to the Christmas season for the Cape Girardeau area.

With Thanksgiving dishes cleaned up, families and friends gather with blankets and excitement along Broadway and Main Streets in Downtown Cape Girardeau, some convening in early afternoon to grab the best spot. They’re waiting to see life-size candy canes traversing through the parade route; decorated fire trucks, trailers, busses and atvs; festive horses, puppies and other beautiful animals; to join in their favorite carol as the musical floats pass by; and, for some this is most important, to catch their first glimpse of Santa Clause.

Now in its 24th year, the Parade of Lights has become a holiday tradition for many across the area. Cape Girardeau’s Parks & Recreation Department has participated in the parade for several years. ‘We love participating in the annual spectacle,’ commented Cassie Essner, Recreation Coordinator for the City’s Parks & Recreation Department. ‘This event gives us a chance to share our enthusiasm with the entire community and it really gets our employees in the spirit of the holidays.’

Space is limited to the first 100 entries. Information packets containing the rules and requirements as well as an entry form can be downloaded from Old Town Cape’s website, http://www.oldtowncape.org/Parade-of-Lights.aspx, or picked up from their office located at 418 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Register on or before October 23rd to receive an early registration discount.

Christmas in Old Town Cape, including the Parade of lights, would not be possible without the help of generous community sponsors: Broadway Prescription Shop, Drury Southwest Inc., Rhodes 101 Convenience Stores and Robinson Construction. Media support provided by the Southeast Missourian.
