Bollinger County Museum Celebrates Dan Stewart

PRESS RELEASE

Dan Stewart, former geologist with the Missouri Geological Survey, Rolla, changed Missouri history forever in 1942. Stewart was researching clay in the Glen Allen area and met a young boy named Ole Chronister. When Chronister learned what he was doing he invited Stewart to look at clay on his family’s property. While there, Stewart saw they had dug a well. Chronister and his mother Lulu showed Dan the “rocks” they had found while digging. Stewart recognized them as dinosaur bones and he found others onsite, and sent them to Washington, DC to what is now, the Smithsonian Institution (where they reside today), and as they say, “The rest is history.” Stewart is no longer with us but the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History, along with the Department of Natural Resources’ Missouri Geological Survey and Lost Word Studios will recognize his contributions to geology and paleontology with a recognition ceremony and presentation to his family. Join us at the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History in Marble Hill on October 10 at 11 a.m. where we will celebrate “Dinosaur Dan” and his lifelong love of the natural world. Admission to the museum for this very special event is free of charge. For more information call 573-238-2713 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
