Local Children’s Coalition to hold Events for National Adoption Month

PRESS RELEASE

Cape Girardeau, MO.  A group of local organizations and individuals are making plans to celebrate National Adoption Month, which is recognized in November each year.

The Run for One 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run will be held at 8am on November 7, 2015 with a Children’s Fair celebrating National Adoption Month to follow at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, 804 N Cape Rock Drive.  Proceeds from the Run for One benefit adoption grants through the Room for One More organization.  Registration is $25 in advance, $30 after October 22.  The Children’s Fair will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with free activities for kids and families, including games, crafts, food, and the Missouri Heart Gallery.  Interested in learning more about adoption?  Representatives from local adoption, foster care, and children’s advocacy organizations will be available to provide information and answer questions.  The Children’s Fair is free and open to the public.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for November 12, 2015 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the Courthouse Gazebo in Cape Girardeau.  The evening will feature music, adoption stories and information, and the Missouri Heart Gallery will be on display.  Individuals and families can attend this free event to honor and celebrate adoption in their lives, or to learn more about how to get involved with adoption, foster care, and advocacy.

The Missouri Heart Gallery is a traveling exhibit of 127 professional photographs featuring 178 children who are looking for a family to call their own.  These stirring portraits reveal the children’s individuality and amazing spirit, and have helped many children find permanent, loving homes through adoption.  In addition to the above, the Missouri Heart Gallery will also be on display at Cape West 14 Theatre from October 30 through November 6 and November 9 through November 12.

The Children’s Coalition includes adoptive and foster parents and other interested individuals, as well as representatives from local foster and adoption organizations such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Hope Children’s Home, Lutheran Family and Children’s Services, the Missouri Children’s Division, and Room for One More.
