United Way Invites Public to Community Conversation on Education

PRESS RELEASE

Cape Girardeau – United Way of Southeast Missouri is encouraging area residents to attend the first of three Community Conversations on Tuesday, November 17th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

Each Community Conversation centers on one of United Way’s three areas of focus. The first is on the topic of education, with Community Conversations focused on health and income to be scheduled in January and February.

The purpose of the Community Conversations is to obtain thoughts from a broad segment of the community on the current state of each topic, while identifying strengths and challenges. This information will guide United Way in determining future programs and action plans that will lead to long-lasting solutions as it approaches the next three-year funding cycle in 2016.

“These Community Conversations are a forum to connect and share concerns, learn facts and identify skills and resources to keep our community healthy and safe,” said Melissa Stickel, Director of Operations and Community Impact. “It’s up to each of us to take steps in our own families, neighborhoods and collective communities that can together make a difference in tackling this problem.”

Anyone interested in discussing education in the region is encouraged to attend, and registration is required. To register, visit www.unitedwayofsemo.org/CommunityConversation/. United Way of Southeast Missouri plans to share the findings from the event following the completion of the Community Conversations series.

United Way of Southeast Missouri is able to connect community members with resources thanks to the support of donors and volunteers combined with corporate gifts and sponsorships. The major sponsors for the 2015 campaign are SoutheastHEALTH and Montgomery Bank with additional support from The Bank of Missouri and Drury Southwest.
