Shop Downtown and Win on Small Business Saturday

NEWS

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – Small Business Saturday is, once again, taking over downtown Cape Girardeau on Saturday, November 28. Avoid long lines and the madness of big-box stores, and support the shops where the owners know your name and will take the time to ensure each shopping experience is first-rate. Plus, consumers have the chance to win.
American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010 to help businesses attract more customers and to encourage the patronage of small establishments. Since then, businesses and communities have rallied around the Shop Small cause and created a shop local movement. In 2014 alone, an estimated $14.3 billion was spent in small businesses on Small Business Saturday. In our downtown alone, last year’s promotion helped make record-setting days for some retailers. These collective efforts help support and encourage local, homegrown businesses - the heart of downtown Cape Girardeau.
Old Town Cape has organized a special promotion on behalf of Cape Girardeau’s downtown retailers to once again ignite the Shop Small movement in our community. Here’s how it works: Check out www.OldTownCape.org/Small-Business-Saturday.aspx for a full list of participating locations. Make a purchase at one of these businesses on Saturday, November 28th, during regular operating hours, and receive an entry to win their giveaway valued at $25 or more. The more businesses purchases are made in, the more chances consumers have to win multiple prizes. One entry allowed per person, per business. Participating consumers must be 18 years of age or older to win.
When asked about the importance of shopping local and patronizing our community’s small businesses, Candi Winkler, owner of Sweet Designs Boutique, commented, “When you shop in my business, you’re doing more than helping me keep my lights on. Your purchases help support my family, help stimulate our local economy and support our thriving downtown. You allow me to give back to the community and help meet the needs of consumers in our area.”
Beat the holiday rush and help strengthen the community by remembering to Shop Small on November 28 and throughout the year.
