Sensitive Santa Visits Children with Disabilities

NEWS

Visiting Santa Claus is a favorite Christmas tradition for many children, but for some with autism it can be an overwhelming experience. The combination of lights, sounds, smells, and long lines can be stressful for a child with disabilities. That’s why the Autism Society of Southern Illinois has come up with a solution, the ‘Sensitive Santa.’ Now in its third year this program allows children to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus in a quiet setting with no waiting. They are given an allotted amount of time to wander the room and warm up to Santa. There is no fee for the visit, and the event is open to children of any disability or emotional need for a Sensitive Santa.

The event takes place December 12 and 13 by appointment only. Those interested can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to set up a time.
