Newbern Selected Executive Director

PRESS RELEASE

The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce announced last week that Brenda Newbern has been selected as the Executive Director of the Cape Girardeau Convention & Visitors Bureau and will begin her duties on Monday, January 18, 2016. She will succeed Mr. Chuck Martin, who after 13 years of service as Director, retires December 31, 2015, to become the part-time Director of the Missouri Travel Council. "We could not be more excited to share the news about Brenda becoming the new CVB Director. She comes with great experience and a strong passion to help Cape Girardeau continue its growth in the tourism and hospitality industry," stated John Mehner, President & CEO of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Cape Chamber began searching for a new Director several months ago and received significant interest in the position. Newbern currently is the Sales Manager for MidAmerica Hotels Corporation in Cape Girardeau, leading their team in recruiting and booking groups at their facilities, a position she has held for the past 13 years. Newbern has other significant experience in customer service and office operations at JCPenney, NARS, Procter & Gamble and four years as Group Tour Manager for the Cape Girardeau Convention & Visitors Bureau in the late 90s and early 2000s. Her volunteer work involves being a long-standing Ambassador for the Chamber, Board member for the Cape Girardeau Area Community Foundation and the Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, and a member of the United Way Community Impact Committee. "There are so many opportunities on the horizon for Cape Girardeau and my mission with the CVB team is to continue fostering economic development through tourism," stated Ms. Newbern. "All of my experiences have brought me to this exciting day. I am certainly prepared to join together with other community leaders and move my city to the next level," concluded Newbern.
