Safe Harbor Animal Shelter Re-Opens

NEWS

The Safe Harbor Animal Shelter - a no-kill shelter located in Jackson, Missouri - had an uncertain future last year when allegations against the director were brought to light. Now the shelter has been reopened with a new license and new director Montica Babers.  After closing its doors in May the shelter has received a remodeling and is taking in animals once again. Last spring the shelter was said to hold 185 cats, all of which had to be relocated. Now the shelter has 14 cats and 4 dogs in its care as it slowly comes back for business. With new tenants arriving they are in need of donations and volunteers to care for the animals and make sure they receive proper veterinary care. As a no-kill shelter Safe Harbor only euthanizes terminally ill animals, and keeps any pets deemed ‘unadoptable.’ As a result they have limited space, and will send extras to the humane society or other shelters in the area when they reach full capacity.

Safe Harbor is located at 359 Cree Lane, Jackson, Mo.
