WSIU, Cedarhurst to Host Free Sesame Street Event

PRESS RELEASE

WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University, and Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, with support from sponsors Hudgins Orthodontics, and the SIU Credit Union, invite area families to a free event featuring Sesame Street’s Everyday Heroes Club.

The event will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, April 9 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, 2600 Richview Road in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Guests are asked to park at Times Square Mall in Mt. Vernon, behind Hobby Lobby, and ride the free bus to Cedarhurst.

Sesame Street’s Everyday Heroes Club promotes acts of kindness, such as helping a friend or family member, being kind to the environment or to animals, and volunteering to help others.

Kids and families will enjoy photo opportunities with Sesame Street walk around characters Elmo, and Abby Cadabby, earn an Everyday Heroes membership card and special badges, and participate in healthy lifestyle, music, art, and dance activities. Children will also be able to make magic wands, color an outdoor mural, watch the feature length Cookie Monster special The Cookie Thief, create an alphabet collage, play with hula hoops, and win prizes at a Rubber Ducky pond.

All families will receive a free book after completing an event survey and will receive WSIU giveaways. Guests are invited to bring their own cameras to take photos.
