Cape Marketeers Club Hosts Garden Activity

The Cape Girardeau Community Gardens is hosting the Cape Marketeers Club at the Shawnee Park Demonstration Garden located at 836 SW End Blvd. on Saturday, October 1 from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. Children ages 5-12 are invited to participate in a garden activity led by Ann Knight, Program Nutrition Associate from the University of Missouri. Kids will have the opportunity to dig sweet potatoes, learn about their nutritional benefits and taste them in a delicious snack. After participating in the activity, kids will receive $5 in tokens to purchase fruits and vegetables from the Cape Riverfront Market.

The Marketeers Club is a free educational program for kids 5 – 12 years old. This program emphasizes the importance of fresh, local food and teaches kids about nutrition, science and growing food through hands-on demonstrations and activities.

The Cape Marketeers Club is made possible by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services through a HEAL (Healthy Eating and Active Living) grant with guidance from the Healthy Communities Coalition.
