UNITED WAY ASKS COMMUNITY TO “GIVE FROM THE HEART”

Cape Girardeau –The United Way of Southeast Missouri needs all hearts on deck! As the 2016 community drive nears an end, United Way is asking businesses and individuals to “Give from the Heart” through the month of February as an additional push to raise funds and awareness.

The mini-campaign will kick off on January 25 with a Buffalo Wild Wings share night. The restaurant will donate 10% back to United Way of Southeast Missouri when diners present a flyer to their server during lunch or dinner. The flyer can be downloaded from the United Way website and Facebook page. Other restaurants that have committed to sharing profits include Bella Italia and Katy O’Ferrell’s Publick House; more will soon be announced.

Throughout the month of February, a variety of area businesses and organizations, including Alliance Bank, Cup n’ Cork, Kuts Plus, and Broadway Prescription Shop, will sell hearts to customers for a minimum donation of $1. The Bank of Missouri will sell hearts and also host a trivia night on February 24th at the Jackson Civic Center.  Additional share nights and fundraisers still are being planned throughout the community during the month of February.

“Traditionally, United Way receives donations through workplace giving and corporate donations. ‘Give from the Heart’ gives everyone an opportunity to show their love for our community while creating awareness for our organization and the work we do. It also gives our workplace partners one more opportunity to engage employees in giving back. We really hope a whole lot of businesses will choose to participate in one way or another, and the whole community will be decorated with hearts,” explains Elizabeth Shelton, Executive Director of United Way of Southeast Missouri.

Event details, promotional materials, and ideas for participating can be obtained by calling Kristin Funderburk, Community Relations Manager, at 573-334-9634 and visiting www.unitedwayofsemo.org. Individuals can donate via the website, by purchasing hearts or dining at participating businesses, and by texting “meettheneed” to 41444.

United Way of Southeast Missouri fights for the health, education and financial stability of every individual in the communities of Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City, Bollinger and Perry Counties. United Way mobilizes organizations, institutions and volunteers to address the community’s most pressing issues, focusing on the building blocks of a vibrant community: Education, Income and Health. The problems facing our community are complex; they are issues that no single organization or individual alone can solve. Real change is possible when nonprofit, public and private sectors work together. United Way has the network, partnerships and strategic initiatives to create lasting change in the lives of our friends and neighbors and in the future of our community.
