CAPE GIRARDEAU POLICE DEPT K9 UNITS NEED YOUR DONATION!

We are calling on all our local and long distance Friends and Members of Our Community to JOIN us in meeting a need that our law enforcement has and showing them that our community is there to support them in any way we can.

A MESSAGE OF NEED FROM THE CAPE GIRARDEAU POLICE DEPT:

A fundraising effort to pay for new police dogs needs community support in the form of donations. Both of our police K-9's will soon retire; Reno this spring, and Schupo in 2018. The Department is currently undergoing a fundraising campaign to pay for replacement dogs as this cost is not funded by the general revenue. We plan on not just continuing the proud tradition of our K-9 unit but also strengthening it with the inclusion of two additional K-9s. By expanding the K-9 unit to four certified police K-9s, it will allow a police K-9 to be assigned to each platoon ensuring a police K-9 is available and on duty around the clock.

The cost of replacing our two K9’s will be about $24,000. This cost involves the purchase of the police K9’s and the initial 8 week training program that trains and certifies the police K9s for the street. We are also looking to replace the current K9 kennels, which are 24 years old in very poor condition. Replacement kennels are priced at approximately $2,800 each (wood floor, chain link “walls” with roof, as well as a storage shed used for housing dog food, tools, and similar equipment).
The K9 Unit is utilized for suspect tracking and apprehension, narcotic detection, building searches, crowd control, and handler protection. They are one of the most requested for appearances, presentations, and other public relation situations.

OUR GOAL IS TO REACH $60,000 FOR THE CAPE PD K9 PROGRAM. At $5.00 we just need 12,000 of you to donate and at $10.00 it will only take just 6,000 community servants to get the job done!!
