CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 24, 2014 -- Brandon Christensen, artistic director of Chamber Music Sundays at Three, is hosting a benefit concert with critically acclaimed Russian pianist Valentina Igoshina March 9 at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus as the fifth performance in the Sundays at Three series.

The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall. The concert is to help support the University’s instrument initiative program, designed to replace many aging musical instruments at the River Campus. Tickets are $25.

Valentina Igoshina, piano

Featured pianist Igoshina was born in Bryansk, Russia, in 1978. She began taking piano lessons from her mother at a very early age, and her mother realized she had an immense budding talent for the piano.

When Igoshina was 11, she was observed by the noted Russian pianist and piano teacher, Larissa Dedova, who encouraged the Igoshina family to allow Igoshina to train in Moscow and enroll in special music programs.

When she was 14, Igoshina traveled to Poland to participate in the Artur Rubinstein Piano Competition and took first prize. She continued to mature as a pianist, and at age 18, she entered the renowned worldwide Rachmaninov Piano Competition held in Moscow in 1997 and won first prize and a special award.

Following this, she began to appear in concerts and recitals worldwide. She appeared in recital in Switzerland, the Republic of Macedonia, France, Italy, Great Britain and Portugal.

Igoshina has appeared as a soloist on many grand concert stages, including with the Melbourne Symphony and with Stenz at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Also, on several occasions, she appeared with the Halle Orchestra, Manchester. She has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra as the guest conductor, and with the BBC Scottish Symphony in Aberdeen, Scotland. On two occasions, she has performed with the Orquesta Filarmonic de Santiago in Chile.

She has made several recordings which have been produced and distributed by her recording label, Warner Classics and Jazz.

While not performing at recitals or in concerts, Igoshina spends most of her time with her husband and daughter at her home near Giverny, France, in Haute-Normandie, but makes frequent trips to Russia where her parents still reside.
