SEMO.EDU

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 26, 2014 – In its third year, the annual “Power of Women” luncheon and expo will be held Wednesday, March 12, at Southeast Missouri State University, in effort to connect female students at Southeast with opportunities, women mentors and resources in the community.

Sponsored in a collaborative effort by the Southeast Missouri University Foundation, Department of Athletics and the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the “Power of Women” will highlight philanthropists, entrepreneurs and extraordinary women of Southeast.

An expo begins at 10:30 a.m. and will feature local businesses, community groups and various campus organizations. A luncheon is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events will be held in the Show Me Center on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. Community members and students are invited to attend.

Cynthia Ann Fleck, Southeast alumna, board certified wound specialist, dermatology advanced practice nurse professional and philanthropist, will give the keynote address with an inspiring message about the potential women have to create change and the transformations that occur in the process.

She is currently president of Cynthia Fleck & Associates, LLC, which provides sales, marketing, training and education, clinical and legal expert witness review and testimony consultation.  She is also vice president of clinical sales and marketing for Vomaris Innovations, Inc., in Phoenix, Ariz. For more than a decade, Fleck has led professional medical, surgical and biotech sales, marketing and clinical business endeavors.

Fleck graduated from Southeast in 1987 with a degree in nursing and was the recipient of Southeast’s St. Louis Salutes award in 2005. She has presented more than 500 seminars and written more than 250 articles and chapters for peer reviewed and clinical publications. Fleck serves as past president and chairman of the American Board of Wound Management, is past two-term director of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, diplomat of the American Professional Wound Care Association, where she serves on the Medical Advisory Board, member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists, scientific co-chair of the Desert Foot Conference, editor of PRESENT Wounds.

During the luncheon, Vicki Boren, president of the Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association, will present the first Power of Women Scholarships to Southeast students Jordan LeeAnn Cavitt of Benton, Ky., and Molly Eggleston and Linda Leigh Epley, both of St. Louis. Recipients of the scholarship were required to demonstrate a passion for a life of service and be full-time Southeast students who have completed at least 30 credit hours with a minimum 2.75 grade point average. Each student will receive a $500 award funded through proceeds from last year’s Power of Women luncheon. The Power of Women Scholarship Committee selected the recipients.

Tickets for the luncheon are $25 per person, $10 for students or $150 for a table of six (table includes sponsoring two students to attend the luncheon). Proceeds will benefit scholarships for female students at Southeast. Reservations must be made by Friday, March 7, by registering online at http://www.semo.edu/powerofwomen. For more information, including how to reserve a booth in the expo, contact the Southeast Missouri University Foundation at (573) 651 – 2252.
