First Art Walk of 2014 to Have Mardis Gras Theme in Ste. Genevieve

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STE. GENEVIEVE, MO --  The art galleries, shops and restaurants of downtown Ste. Genevieve will be caught up in the festive spirit of Mardi Gras this weekend for the celebration of the Fourth Friday Art Walk on February 28, 2014.  The Ste. Genevieve Downtown Renewal Project, sponsor of the Art Walk programs, has announced that the Feb 28 Art Walk will feature a Mardi Gras theme to kick off the new season of Art Walk events.  Art Walks in Ste. Genevieve are hosted from 6 to 9 pm on the fourth Friday of each month from February thru November.

In keeping with the Mardi Gras theme, the Ste. Genevieve Art Guild will be selling Mardi Gras Masks at 109 N. Main to help raise money for the Bette Geraghty Memorial Scholarship fund.  Stella and Me, located at 198 North Main, will be selling Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee from 5 to 8 pm, or while supplies last.  The Welcome Center, located at 66 South Main, will offer Mardi Gras beads to the first 50 Art Walk patrons to visit the Welcome Center.  Enjoy live acoustic music at two shops: Simple to Sassy and Art and Antiques.

During the monthly Art Walk, Ste. Genevieve art galleries host open houses to encourage patrons to view and purchase works of art by local and regional artists displaying a variety of art forms. Many businesses in the Historic District participate by extending their store hours during the Fourth Friday Art Walk. At press time, the following shops were planning to participate in the Mardi Gras Art Walk on Feb 28:  Odile’s Linen and Lace, Sweet Things Sweet Shop, Le Techniques, European Entitlements, the Linden House Shop at the Bolduc House Museum, the Show Me Shop, Only Child Originals/Rust, the Ste. Genevieve Winery, Simple to Sassy Décor & More, Spirit Haus, Kathy’s Pour Le Femmes, Art & Antiques, Studio 221 and Galleria Ste. Genevieve. Refreshments are served at various locations.

There is no charge to tour the Fourth Friday Art Walk, however there is an optional $5 pass which participants can purchase. By getting six locations to stamp their pass, they can be entered in a drawing to win their choice of original art or a featured item of $100 value at the ‘After Party’ at the end of the night.

The following locations will feature artwork by selected artists valued at $100 or another item or gift card for that amount.
