CITY OF CAPE GIRARDEAU BLOG

The City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will be offering the Fifth Annual Girl’s Softball League for girls ages 5 – 13 this summer.

There will be four separate age divisions beginning with instructional (t-ball) for 5-6 year-olds, rookie (coach pitch) for 7-8 year-olds, AA for 9-10 year-olds, and AAA for 11-13 year-olds. All games will be played at the Arena Park softball fields.

The cost for the league is $50 per player. The entry fee will cover the cost for a 10-12 game schedule, uniform shirt, ASA team registration, and all team playing equipment (excluding gloves).

Players 9-13 years of age will be required to attend a pre-season skills test.  Players will be tested on hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running, and pitching.  The dates and times for the skills testing are as follows: Thursday, April 3, Monday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 9 from 5-7 p.m. each night. All skills testing will take place at the Arena Park softball fields. Players should come equipped to play on one of these dates.

Games are set to begin May 19, and the season will run through the end of July.

Head and assistant coaches are needed for this league. Registration forms and coach’s forms are currently available at the A. C. Brase Arena, Shawnee Park Center, and the Osage Centre. Registration forms can be turned in at the A. C. Brase Arena, Osage Centre, or at any of the skills testing sessions. The registration deadline is set for Wednesday, April 9.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a team in the Girl’s Softball League should contact the Parks and Recreation Department office. For sponsorship information or any other league information call 339-6340.
