CGRG v. Confluence Crush, Bonus Coed Expo: 2 Bouts for the Price of 1

Hoping to continue their winning season, the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls (CGRG) will take on the Confluence Crush Heartbreakers of Edwardsville, Ill., Saturday, May 17th at the A.C. Brase Arena. This bout features a new highlight-- a coed mash-up afterward that welcomes all levels of male and female skaters from teams around the region.

CGRG's current record is 3-1, most recently defeating Midstate Mayhem at home. CGRG and most of the teams they play abide by the rules of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Flat track roller derby is a high-energy contact team sport played on quad skates (with four wheels each) that requires athleticism, speed, and offensive and defensive strategy.

The CGRG is a nonprofit organization, and the team donates a portion of every bout to a local charity. So far the team has donated more than $4,000 to Special Olympics and Southeast Hospice since this season began in February. A donation from this bout will go to WatkinsWildlife Rehab,
which helps rehabilitate animals and get them back into the wild. Last month the team chose Beacon Health System to receive a check, which will be presented at half-time. Other charities designated this season as beneficiaries of the team's good will include the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Foundation and the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri.

The CGRG takes pride in providing a family-friendly atmosphere. After every bout the fans are invited down to the track for photos and autographs, and children are encouraged to jump into the team photo.

With the addition of the coed expo bout, doors will open an hour earlier than in previous years, at 5:00. The CGRG will meet Confluence Crush at 6:00, and the expo bout will follow after a brief break.
