Saturday Social: Sparky Campanella And Thomas Smugala

PRESS REALEASE

Saturday, September 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host two artist talks featuring Sparky Campanella and Thomas Smugala.  Campanella is scheduled from 11 am – 1 pm, and Smugala will present from 1 pm – 3 pm.

Photographer Sparky Campanella will be in Cape Girardeau for the opening of his exhibit Sparky Campanella: Horizon, on display at the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum from September 6 – October 26. The exhibit features color photography focused on the point where nature and urban worlds collide.

On Saturday, Campanella will give an informal talk on his aluminum printing technique, and will provide tips to help artists gain exposure on the national stage.

Thomas Smugala is both a professional photographer and the editor of 573 Magazine. This year, Smugala will serve as juror for the Arts Council’s 2nd Annual Members Exhibit. His photography makes use of the newest digital technologies, encompassing both art and advertising. Originally from St. Louis, he has since worked as a photographer in New York, Los Angeles, and across the world.

Smugala’s Saturday Social will center on the topic of balancing art and commerce. He will also be available for a Q&A session to follow this presentation.

Registration for both talks is appreciated but not required. To register please call the Arts Council at (573) 334-9233.

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is located at 32 North Main Street in Cape Girardeau, MO. Galleries are open Tuesday- Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
