What Happens After Hollywood Leaves Town

PRESS RELEASE

Cape Girardeau’s Preparation for Gone Girl’s Release

It was almost a year ago when Hollywood took Cape Girardeau by storm, filming Gone Girl right along the banks of the Mississippi.  The excitement and anticipation is flourishing throughout the town as the release of Gone Girl approaches.  In preparation of the film’s debut, a downtown merchants group is hosting “The Hunt for Amy” scavenger hunt starting Thursday, September 25 to Saturday, September 27.

This time last year, Ben Affleck, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry and more Hollywood actors were wandering around town experiencing Missouri’s hospitality. With the film’s release coming on October 3, 2014, Cape is gearing up to celebrate.

“It was very exciting to have our town be a part of a movie set,” said Paula Haas, owner of Somewhere In Time Antiques. “To honor its release, we all want to come together and relive the moment by doing something fun for the town.”

“The Hunt for Amy” scavenger hunt will start with a ‘Call for Volunteers’ from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25, at Cup “N” Cork’s new location, 11 S. Spanish Street. Search parties will be formed at this time and clues will be given. The search parties will then have until 5:00 p.m. Sept. 27 to complete the hunt.

After the hunt has been completed, Holly Brantley, news anchor of KFVS 12 News, will host a ‘Press Conference’ on Saturday, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sept. 27 in the upper deck of Dockside at 4 N. Spanish Street. There will be special prizes offered by local merchants, hors d’oeuvres, beverages and the chance to win a luxury grand prize. The grand prize includes a pair of tickets to Wehrenberg theaters, a $100 restaurant gift certificate for fine dining at Port Cape’s new CQ and a 1-night stay at Candlewood Suites.
