River Tales Classic Car Show - Old Town Cape Winner

PRESS RELEASE

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo – Old Town Cape is excited to announce their winner for the 2014 River Tales Classic Car show held in downtown Cape Girardeau, Sunday, September 14. Of the 206 registered vehicles, Old Town Cape’s guest judge, Kevin Schaper from Withers Radio Group, decided on Chris Glisson’s beautiful 1977 Ford Mustang II Cobra. Removable t-tops afforded an up close view of the polished red interior. Red racing stripes complemented the beautiful white exterior. From Carterville, Il, this mustang has been pampered by the Glisson family since it rolled off the line. ‘This vehicle caught my eye,’ commented Shaper. ‘I remember cruising down Broadway in the mid-70’s and this is what you would see rolling down the street. It embodies what Old Town Cape is all about, preserving and revitalizing history.’

In the 37th year for the event, the River City Rodders Car Club, along with the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau and Old Town Cape, have fine-tuned what it takes to carry out a successful show. Oldies music broadcast by Hot Rod Nights and tantalizing aromas from a BBQ stand mingled in the air with the tangy scent of rubber and exhaust. Stories were swapped under the hoods of classic vessels as the sun heated up the pavement. Years of history and thousands of hours of blood, sweat and tears sat in Downtown Cape Girardeau, waiting for their stories to be heard.

‘This car show is part of Cape Girardeau’s culture, and we’re honored to be a part of it,’ commented Marla Mills, Executive Director of Old Town Cape. ‘It seems only fitting that historical cars be on display and judged in one of Cape Girardeau’s most historic neighborhoods - Downtown Cape.’

Sponsors for this year’s show include: Auto Tire & Parts NAPA, EVtv Motor Werks and SoutheastHEALTH. Old Town Cape is a community driven, nonprofit organization that utilizes the Four-Point Main Street Approach™ to preserve, promote, revitalize, and enrich the historic, cultural, and economic landscapes of downtown Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Old town is your town - Be a part of it!
