"The Bravest Wear Pink" Community Picnic


Event Update (9/10/14):

Everyone is invited to join SoutheastHEALTH in recognizing the Cape Girardeau Police Department and Fire/Rescue's effort in the fight against breast cancer at ‘The Bravest Wear Pink’ Community Picnic.

This FREE event will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4:30 to 6 pm at the Shawnee Park Center (Link to Google map here?) and is open to the entire community – families, church groups, clubs, co-workers and more!

Enjoy a FREE picnic meal, including sandwiches, chips, cookies and beverages courtesy of SoutheastHEALTH.

There will be a special treat for everyone wearing pink along with great door prizes.

Participants will be able to meet Cape Girardeau police and fire/rescue officers. These special guests will be autographing free collector cards and "The Bravest Wear Pink” T-shirts.

The pink T-shirts will be available at the picnic for a minimum donation of $15. Proceeds from t-shirt sales will help provide mammograms to underserved women. For a complete list of locations selling the t-shirts throughout October, go to

Cape Police, Firefighters Team Up with SoutheastHEALTH for Breast Cancer Awareness

SoutheastHEALTH has teamed up with the Cape Girardeau Police and Fire departments to promote breast cancer awareness throughout the month of October.

As part of the month-long, “Bravest Wear Pink” campaign, Cape police and firefighters will wear special, pink T-shirts and participate in a number of community events.

You can be a part of this special observance in support of all women by purchasing a “Bravest Wear Pink” T-shirt. Shirts are $15 each and are available at:

  • The Wishing Well Gift Shop at  Southeast Hospital
  •  HealthPoint Fitness in Cape and Jackson
  •  Southeast Pharmacy at the West Campus, 817 South Mount Auburn Road
  •  The Foundation office at 60 Doctors’ Park
  • The Cape Girardeau Police Department, 40 South Sprigg
  • Cape Girardeau Fire Department #1, 1 South Sprigg

Proceeds from T-shirt sales will help provide mammograms for underserved women and help fund cancer patients’ immediate needs while undergoing treatment.

SoutheastHEALTH will sponsor two major events in October as part of the breast cancer campaign.

The “Bravest Wear Pink” Community Picnic will be held on Thursday, Oct.  16, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Shawnee Park Center. Participants will be able to meet with police and fire/rescue officers with the city of Cape Girardeau. Police and fire vehicles will be displayed. The picnic will include complimentary sandwiches, chips, cookies and beverages.

A presentation on “Battling Breast Cancer” will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, at HealthPoint – Cape from 5 to 6 p.m.  Sarah Colwick, MD, of Cape Girardeau Surgical Clinic, and James C. Mosley III, MD, of Southeast Hematology/Oncology will be the featured speakers. Light refreshments will be served. Go online to to register.
