St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Members Holding Master Classes, Free Concert Nov. 3 at Southeast

Members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert and conduct master classes today, Nov. 3, at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.

Master classes, called “Symphony in Your College” for Southeast students are planned for 3:30-5 p.m. They will be followed by a free performance titled “Symphony in Your Neighborhood” scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall.

“We’re thrilled to have this opportunity for our students and the community,” said Kevin Hampton, chair of the Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University.

Jennifer Nitchman, flute, Philip Ross, oboe, Diana Haskell, clarinet, Henry Skolnick, bassoon, and Thomas Jöstlein, horn, will team up with Gerard Pagano, bass trombone, to perform Hidas Frigyes’ “1+5 Sextet for Bass Trombone and Wind Quintet.” Also on the program is a new piece by composer Martin Kennedy for trombone (Pagano) and percussion (Will James).

Today’s events are part of the Orchestra’s St. Louis Symphony Community and Education programs.
