Joe Surmeier is a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, majoring in Cyber Security. Back in October, Surmeier was invited to attend a recognition dinner and round table with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the White House in Washington, D.C.
During the summer Surmeier interned with the Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative Secretary’s Honor Program, working in the offices of DHS.
The Cyber Security program is a very recent addition to Southeast. What started with 15 students in 2011 has evolved into a Tier 1 Research University-level program, and the student success has been a reflection of that.
