On November 2 Matt Vincent of Carbondale Illinois traveled to the Big Apple to run the New York City Marathon. One of the largest marathons in the world, Vincent had to apply for three years in a row before he was accepted. He ran a 50 mile training route every week to prepare for the 26.2 mile marathon. He was one of 50,000 finishers who made it to the end, completing the race in a little over 5 hours.
Vincent dedicates a lot of his time to athletics. He is the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at SIU and was an offensive lineman during college. In 2011, seeking a challenge, he ran the Disney World Marathon, then decided to go for the ultimate run in New York City. He said that the marathon was one of the greatest experiences of his life.
