Though it is still a little cold for a garden stroll, it’s something to look forward to come spring when the flowers are in bloom, and the Cape Parks and recreation department holds the official ribbon-cutting for the new Gateley Rose Garden.
The rose garden, which now occupies what was once an empty patch of grass on Aquamsi Street in Cape Girardeau, is now complete. The brick layout and park benches are a nice compliment to The Red House next door, and offers a view of the Bill Emerson Bridge.
The rose garden was once just a 0.2 acre piece hidden behind the courthouse. The garden was moved to allow for plumbing repair. The move turned out for the best, for the garden has doubled in size, and is now in full view for everyone to enjoy.
