2014 Parade of Lights Award Winners

PRESS RELEASE

The 2014 Parade of Lights was a smashing success, and Old Town Cape is excited announce this year’s award winners! Approximately 90 entries ranging from marching bands and church organizations, to local businesses, charity organizations and scout troops made up this year’s spectacle. The theme, ‘Christmas Carols & Candy Canes’, provided a wide array of decorating possibilities and helped pull together a beautiful event.

Those entries that went above and beyond to capture the audience are recognized by receiving the following awards: Best Theme, Best Business Appearance, Best Nonprofit Appearance, Best Music, Best Lighting, Best Marching Band and the Chairman’s Award.

Best Theme: Levi’s Children’s Charity

Best Business Appearance: Big Lots

Best Nonprofit Appearance: Red Star Baptist Church

Best Music: Mississippi River Radio - K103, KZIM, ESPN

Best Lighting: The Mattress Guys

Best Marching Band: Notre Dame Regional High School

Chairman’s Award: C106 Radio with their rendition of Frozen

This year’s judging panel was made up of the following community members: Lisa Gerlach, Dr. Roseanna Whitlow-Greenwood, Cherie Herbst, Debbie Farrow, Mary Jane Caldwell and Zac Caldwell.

This event wouldn’t be possible without help from the following groups and organizations: the event chairpersons - Kent and Vicki Zickfield, everyone who was behind the scenes helping mark off the lineup spots in the park and directing traffic, the park entrance volunteers, our street cleanup crew - KRCU Generation Listen, and the Cape Girardeau Police Department. Last, but certainly not least, thank you to everyone who came out to watch and enjoy the event. Congratulations to this year’s winners and thank you to everyone who helped make this event successful!

The Parade of Lights, Downtown Christmas Open House and the downtown Christmas decorations are sponsored through Old Town Cape by: Broadway Prescription Shop, Drury Southwest Inc., Rhodes 101 Convenience Stores, Robinson Construction and the Southeast Missourian.
