Local Violinist Nominated for Grammy

NEWS

Born and raised in Cape Girardeau, violinist Liesl Schoenberger Doty has had great success since she first picked up a violin at the age of 2. Before attending Indiana University to get a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, she drove 600 miles round trip from her house to attend music lessons as a child. Doty now has a Doctorate from the New England Conservatory, and has performed at Carnegie Hall. Her orchestra, A Far Cry, has been nominated for a Grammy for their album “Dreams & Prayers” in the best chamber music/small ensemble performance category. From Boston to Los Angeles, Doty is hitting all the high notes in her career, but her heart is close to home, so she has always made time to stop back in her hometown to visit her mom, grab some Cup ‘N Cork, and even perform at the River Campus where she once worked and learned. Her cross-country tour prevented Doty from recording for the album herself, but she said it was worth it for a chance to go home.  Keep an eye out for Doty this fall when she returns once again to perform for the River Campus.
