1st Annual Cape Girardeau Public Library Citywide Spelling Bee

PRESS RELEASE

The Friends Foundation of the Cape Girardeau Public Library is excited to announce the 1st Annual Cape Girardeau Public Library Citywide Spelling Bee on Friday, March 20, 2015! 20 teams will compete for spelling supremacy, prizes and of course, bragging rights in this trivia-night-turned-spelling bee night of entertainment. Teams of three will confer together to spell words that will start out easy and progress to more challenging words.

“I’m so excited that the Friends Foundation is planning its first Citywide Spelling Bee. I attended one in New Hampshire several years ago and loved the way it brought people from different parts of the community together for a friendly competition. It’s like a trivia night and scholar bowl rolled into one with the added benefit of being fun for both the teams and the audience!” says library director Betty Martin.

Register your team of 3 (ages 14+) by February 20, 2015; the spelling bee is limited to 20 teams, and team registration is $75. Rally the troops from your office, church, neighborhood....you get the idea. Invite the whole crew to watch the fun! A $2 entry fee for spectators gains you entry to spelling thrills and complementary refreshments. Download a registration form from CapeLibary.org/SpellingBee or pick one up from the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation and will support summer reading programs, technology upgrades and maintenance, additional material needs and more!

Cape Girardeau’s generosity is shining, with local businesses stepping up to the plate to make this fundraiser happen. The Friends Foundation is very grateful to Alliance Bank, Edward Jones, Element 74, First Midwest Bank, Isle Casino Cape Girardeau and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, Cape Girardeau Unit for their sponsorship of the 1st Annual Cape Girardeau Public Library Citywide Spelling Bee.
