NubAbility Athletic Camp Reaches New Attendance Record

NEWS

Three years ago the NubAbility Athletics Foundation began a sports camp for different-limbed children in Southern Illinois, now coming up on their fourth summer the camp will reach a new milestone with over 100 children registered to attend. A huge expansion since their first year with 19 kids, and 7 coaches. Jana Kuhnert, camp and event director, said, “I just don't know how else to describe it. It’s exploded.” Many children are attending from across the country, some as far as California. Their coaches have increased as well, with 40 limb-different coaches who have excelled in their specialty sports without limbs such as a leg, arm, foot, or hand. These coaches will provide instruction in more than 10 sports sponsored at the camp including wrestling, swimming, and shooting. Kuhnert said, “The cool thing about what we do is when you see the light come on in these kids' hearts and in their eyes and they come to expect a high level of performance out of themselves because they know they can do it.”

The camp takes place July 16 – 19 in Du Quoin, IL.
