New President Announced for Southeast

At a press conference this morning campus officials announced the 18th President of Southeast Missouri State University, Dr. Carlos Vargas-Aburto. Dr. Vargas will succeed President Dobbins starting July 1. Dr. Vargas happily took the podium after he was introduced by Doyle L. Privett, Chair of the presidential search committee. "As a low income first generation student I never thought I would be here . . . for me it's quite amazing," Dr. Vargas said. He went on to emphasis his desire to strengthen the university's relationship with the community, and student learning, "We should not just ask students to memorize, but learn how to learn." Appropriately the university's new logo was on display behind the podium, a symbol of the many changes that will continue to lead Southeast into a promising future.
