The Boys & Girls Club Creates Book for Seniors

NEWS

The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale gave the residents of the Senior Center a special gift last week. The students of the Boys and Girls Club spent a day at the Carbondale Senior Center Adult Daycare, meeting with the residents there, sharing stories and having pictures taken, as well as working on arts and crafts projects together. The result was "A Day in the Life: Kids and Seniors Share Stories", a book created by the Boys and Girls Club filled with the senior's stories and pictures.

Gaylene Miller, 65, described the book as "splendid" and said the presence of the children at the center lifts her spirits and "puts a bright spark in your day."

The boys and girls were admittedly hesitant at first, but Sean McGahan, the assistant program director, said the students now eagerly ask him, "When can we go back to Senior Adult Services?" The visits have been a tradition for the last four years, and each party get's something special out of it.
