Former SIU Student Lands Movie Deal

Some might have heard of the movie Maggie, the latest zombie flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but what you might not know is that it was written by John Scott, a former Southern Illinois University cinematography student. Scott is an engineer for one of NASA's flagship observatories, but his heart is in filmmaking. He has previously done work with Fox Television Studios and CBS Studios, but he calls Maggie the highlight of his growing career. “I drew from my own personal experiences: small town life in the Midwest, a caring but tough stepmother and a stoic father,” Scott said. “It was very sobering to write something so close to home, but in the end, it was a cathartic experience.”

Maggie comes to theaters May 8.
