Student Art Garden Added to Broadway

The corner of Broadway and Sprigg street in Cape Girardeau has been vacant for years. Owned by Broadway Prescription Shop it went mostly unused, but thanks to an urban revitalization project from a Southeast student, that corner has found a new purpose. The space has been transformed into a Student-Art Showcase Garden with a manicured lawn, benches, trees, and a featured sculpture by Ashley Sexton. The project was part of an honors project by senior Lydia Ness called “Bridging Space through Placemaking”. She teamed up with the Parks and Recreation Department, and students from the Horticulture Department to make the space possible. Focusing on preservation Ness says she hopes the space will continue to grow.
