History Buff Hopes to take the Big Screen

NEWS

Jon Musgrave has proven to be one of Southern Illinois more passionate residents when it comes to history. He’s the founder of Illinoishistory.com, guides the Herrin Massacre Tour, and is a former journalist. Now Musgrave is working on a new project that will hopefully hit the big screen.

Musgrave’s research has inspired him to write a fictional screenplay about ‘Bloody Williamson’, which will look at the violent history in Williamson County between 1922 and 1927. The screenplay features infamous gangster Charlie Birger who was connected to wars brought on by coalfields, gangsters, the Ku Klux Klan, and Prohibition.

With the help of St. Louis-based actor and writer Robert Nolan Clark who co-wrote the screenplay, Musgrave has pitched the project to production companies, and is working on revisions. One company has shown interest in the possibility of a mini-series. But production or not, Musgrave is happy to share the lesser-known but fascinating history of Southern Illinois.
