KFVS12 To Add Local Newscast

PRESS RELEASE

(Cape Girardeau) KFVS12 will launch a new local newscast starting September 8 to air live weekday afternoons at 4:00. The announcement came from KFVS12 Vice President and General Manager Dave Thomason. The new newscast, “Heartland News Now" will feature news anchor and reporter Mollie Lair and meteorologist Laura Wibbenmeyer.

“Formal research, along with informal viewer response, tells us that people want more local news, especially in this time period,” said Thomason. “We’re excited to offer that, and to be the only source for local TV news at 4:00.”

According to Mark Little, News Director for KFVS12, “Heartland News Now” will include breaking news, news of the day, First Alert weather forecasts, consumer information, parenting advice, and community events. Little says it will also provide information about stories that will be covered in Heartland News At Five and Six.

“We’ve been working behind the scenes for quite a while to make this newscast something viewers will want to watch and will find useful as they plan their evenings and the days ahead,” added Little.

With the addition of “Heartland News Now” weekdays at 4:00, KFVS12 will produce nearly 30 hours of original local news per week. Heartland News at Noon and Ten, along with the 6:00 a.m. hour of The Breakfast Show is also re-broadcast on sister station The Heartland’s CW (WQWQ-TV.)  In addition, KFVS12 produces “Heartland News At Nine On Fox 23”, an hour-long local newscast that airs on the local Fox affiliate KBSI.

“We’re growing and it feels good,” continued Thomason. “We sincerely thank the viewers because if they weren’t consuming our product, this wouldn’t be possible.”

Starting September 8th, “Heartland News Now” will be followed at 4:30 by “Access Hollywood,” a half-hour program that reports on breaking and notable entertainment news from across the country. “The Meredith Vieira Show,” currently airing at 4:00 p.m. on KFVS12 will move to sister station The Heartland’s CW weekday afternoons at 2:00.

“Laura and I can’t wait to launch the newscast,” said news anchor Mollie Lair. “Not often do we get the chance to be part of something that starts with a clean slate and build it from the ground up.”
