United Way Kicks-Off with Need over Goals

Elizabeth Shelton Speaks for United WayNEWS

At their campaign kick-off today United Way held a thank you dinner for their sponsors, advocates, and volunteers while announcing plans for the 2015 Campaign. United Way supports about 36 programs for after school, and seniors, as well as food pantries, and many more. On October 24 they will be teaming up with the Red Cross as well to help provide free smoke alarm installation to the community.

The new Executive Director Elizabeth Shelton announced a change to United Way’s approach for their campaign this year. The campaign theme is ‘Turning Compassion into Action’ and they are doing so by focusing on their programs from a different angle, “It’s not about us and our goals. We’re focusing on the need of the community rather than the goal.” They announced that this year their campaign need is $975,000.

United Way is working hard to assist the community with income, health, and education. Sponsors, donations, advocates, and volunteers are needed for all their programs. Those that wish to help or learn more can visit their website, and turn compassion into action.
