Area PreK-12 Students Invited to Participate in International Art Contest

PRESS RELEASE

Carbondale, Ill. – WSIU Public Broadcasting, a service of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the SIU College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, and Prix Jeunesse International invite area children to participate in an international art contest during the month of October. The contest is based on the theme “What It Means To Be Me”.

Children from preschool through grade 12 are invited to create two-dimensional artwork that expresses what shapes their identities and how they see themselves in relationship to the world around them. Local art will be judged and prizes will be awarded by WSIU. Art can be created using crayons, pencils, pens, markers, watercolors, or another two-dimensional medium. Each age group will be judged separately.

Winning local entries will be mailed to Munich, Germany to be presented along side art from children all over the word in an exhibit at Prix Jeunesse International, a festival for the best children’s media to be held in Munich, Germany in the summer of 2016. An international jury will decide on twelve winners whose art will be produced as posters, and three grand prize winners who will receive trophies. Artwork submitted will not be returned.

Entries must include the official parent permission form, official entry form, and original works of art. Entry forms and instructions are available at wsiu.org/pj-art.

All entries must be submitted by October 28, 2015 to WSIU Public Broadcasting at 1100 Lincoln Drive, Room 1003, Carbondale, IL 62901 and should be addressed “Attention: Art Contest.” Participants may also drop off their artwork at WSIU’s main office weekdays between 8:30am-4:30pm.

Teachers and informal educators who wish to lead a group in this art project should contact WSIU for assistance.
