Acting Classes Offered to Elementary Students

NEWS

Southeast Missouri State University is providing Children Theatre Workshops this spring, giving those in kindergarten through eighth grade a chance to learn and perform in a professional theatre environment. These workshops welcome students of all levels of experience with the intention of teaching song, dance, and acting. At the end of the class session students will put on a show for their family and friends.

The Children’s Theatre Workshop will train for a performance of ‘Matilda’ - the children’s book turned Broadway musical that tells Roald Dahl’s famous story of a girl who changes her destiny with the power of reading. Classes are open to kindergarten to fourth grade. They will be held each Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon starting February 27 and running through April 2 (excluding March 26). Cost is $150 per student, and includes snacks.

For those in fifth through eighth grades the River Campus will host an Acting Class where aspiring actors can find their voice and gain self-confidence. The afternoons will include physical and vocal warm-ups, improvisational games, character-building exercises and audition material. These classes run from February 27 through April 2 (excluding March 26) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Also $150 per student.

Classes will be held in the new acting and directing black box studio located in Room 114 of the Dobbins
River Campus Center. Click here to register.
