WSIU to Webcast Eclipse 2017 Workshop

PRESS RELEASE

WSIU Public Television, a public media station of Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale, will provide a webcast of the first day of a two-day Eclipse 2017 workshop, which will be held at the SIU Student Center on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11.

WSIU will livestream day one of the workshop, on Friday, June 10, via YouTube at https://youtu.be/CI58M3VzG38.

Hosted by Bob Baer, computer specialist and director of public astronomy observations for the SIU Physics department, and Shadia Habbal, a professor at the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii, the two-day workshop invites the general public to learn from leading scientists and amateur astronomers about the total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017. Southern Illinois is a focal point for eclipse, which will sweep across the United States from coast to coast, but reach its point of greatest duration – approximately two minutes and 40 seconds – a few miles south of Illinois.

Select sessions of the two-day workshop are open to the general public at no cost. View the public program schedule online at
