LST Memorial 325 to Dock at Cape Girardeau this Fall

PRESS RELEASE

A piece of WWII-era history makes its way along the Mississippi River to Cape Girardeau this fall.

The LST Memorial 325 was a participant in the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.  Launched in 1942, this ship is the only remaining LST out of the over 1,000 manufactured during WWII.

The LST Memorial 325 will be available for tours at Cape Girardeau’s riverfront September 29 - October 3, 2016.  Local events surrounding the docking are in the works and include a military vehicle display, opening ceremonies, and an airplane display at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

“The LST Memorial 325 visited Cape Girardeau in 2003 and we are thrilled to welcome them back to Cape Girardeau’s Riverfront Park this fall!  We’re working with community partners to give them a warm welcome,” says Stacy Dohogne Lane, Director of Public Relations at the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Exciting details to follow as plans are finalized.
